È il punto zero: Amazing Fantasy #15 racconta l'origine del personaggio — il morso del ragno, zio Ben, "da grandi poteri derivano grandi responsabilità". I primi dieci numeri della serie regolare introducono quasi tutta la galleria storica dei nemici: Camaleonte, Avvoltoio, Dottor Octopus, Sandman, Lizard, Electro. This is ground zero: Amazing Fantasy #15 tells the character's origin — the spider bite, Uncle Ben, "with great power there must also come great responsibility". The first ten issues of the ongoing series introduce nearly the entire classic rogues' gallery: Chameleon, Vulture, Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Lizard, Electro. This is also where the "Marvel method" is born: a superhero with the everyday problems of a real teenager.

La saga in sei capitoli — "Fearful Symmetry", scandita dai versi di William Blake — che molti considerano la più grande storia di Spider-Man mai scritta. Kraven il Cacciatore, deciso a dimostrarsi superiore alla sua preda, sconfigge Peter (fresco di nozze con Mary Jane e ancora nel costume nero), lo seppellisce vivo e per due settimane ne indossa il costume, ripulendo le strade con una brutalità che Spider-Man non si concederebbe mai. The six-chapter saga — "Fearful Symmetry", punctuated by the verses of William Blake — that many consider the greatest Spider-Man story ever written. Kraven the Hunter, determined to prove himself superior to his prey, defeats Peter (freshly married to Mary Jane and still in the black costume), buries him alive and wears his costume for two weeks, cleaning up the streets with a brutality Spider-Man would never allow himself. Then, his last hunt won, he takes his own life: an unprecedented ending for a 1987 Marvel comic.

It is the only eighties classic I own: on its own it bridges the great leap between the Lee/Ditko era of the Masterworks and the Straczynski relaunch, and it was the first crossover to weave all three spider-titles of the day into a single story. Kraven stayed dead for over twenty years, until the resurrection in Grim Hunt (2010) — an absolute rarity in serial comics.

Straczynski (già creatore di Babylon 5) rilancia un personaggio in crisi creativa introducendo la mitologia dei totem: il misterioso Ezekiel pone la domanda che cambia tutto — "il ragno ti ha scelto, o è stato un caso?" — ed esordisce Morlun, il divoratore di totem. The most important run of the 2000s. Straczynski (already the creator of Babylon 5) relaunches a creatively stalled character by introducing the totem mythology: the mysterious Ezekiel asks the question that changes everything — "did the spider choose you, or was it just chance?" — and Morlun, the devourer of totems, makes his debut. Il canto del cigno di Straczynski e una delle storie più controverse di sempre: zia May morente, e l'unico modo per salvarla è un patto con Mefisto che cancella dalla realtà il matrimonio di Peter e Mary Jane e fa dimenticare al mondo l'identità di Spider-Man. È l'evento-cerniera dell'intera collezione: chiude l'era aperta da Tornando a casa e genera direttamente Un nuovo giorno, che senza questa premessa risulta criptico. Il volume include anche Un momento nel tempo (2010), il complemento che rivela cosa accadde davvero il giorno del matrimonio-mai-avvenuto e come funzionò l'oblio collettivo.

Straczynski's swan song and one of the most controversial stories ever: Aunt May is dying, and the only way to save her is a pact with Mephisto that erases Peter and Mary Jane's marriage from reality and makes the world forget Spider-Man's identity. It is the hinge event of the entire collection: it closes the era opened by Coming Home and directly generates Brand New Day, which is cryptic without this premise. The volume also includes One Moment in Time (2010), the companion piece that reveals what really happened on the day of the wedding-that-never-was and how the collective amnesia worked.

La storia fu così divisiva che Straczynski chiese di togliere la firma da metà dei capitoli, in disaccordo con la soluzione voluta dall'editor-in-chief Quesada (che la disegnò personalmente). Questa edizione esce in coppia orchestrata con il Must Have di Un nuovo giorno: causa ed effetto pubblicati nello stesso mese.

The story was so divisive that Straczynski asked to have his name taken off half the chapters, disagreeing with the solution wanted by editor-in-chief Quesada (who drew it personally). This edition came out as an orchestrated pair with the Brand New Day Must Have: cause and effect published in the same month.

The biggest modern "year zero" of the series. Ai disegni torna John Romita Jr., lo stesso artista di Tornando a casa, vent'anni dopo: la collezione si apre e si chiude idealmente con lui.

The series' last great "year zero" before the 2024 relaunch. It starts from a mystery: six months have passed, Peter has fallen out with the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and Aunt May, he has broken up with MJ (who now has a new family) and nobody explains why. John Romita Jr. returns on art — the same artist as Coming Home, twenty years later: the collection ideally opens and closes with him.

The series' most recent number 1, the eighth editorial life of Amazing Spider-Man: after the end of the Wells run and the 8 Deaths of Spider-Man event, Joe Kelly starts over with an unemployed, job-hunting Peter, a rampaging Rhino as the tip of a criminal iceberg, a mysterious puppet master arming the spider-villains, and a Goblin-less Norman Osborn still to be figured out. The opening arc culminates in the return of the original Hobgoblin, Roderick Kingsley, who targets Peter's loved ones.

È l'unico capitolo della collezione ancora "vivo" — e il candidato naturale a un upgrade quando Panini raccoglierà il ciclo in cartonato.

The tenure currently under way on the series: to complete just the opening arc, newsstand issues nos. 2 and 3 (875–876) are enough, then the run continues month by month up to the 2026 crossover Death Spiral with Venom and Carnage. It is the only chapter of the collection still "alive" — and the natural candidate for an upgrade once Panini collects the cycle in hardcover.

La numerazione storica italiana è un'unica catena ininterrotta dal 1987 (Star Comics → Marvel Italia → Panini): questa collezione la attraversa dai primi anni Star Comics (con L'ultima caccia di Kraven) fino all'876, più la preistoria Corno del 1970. Curiosità: la collezione contiene sei dei sette "numeri 1" della testata americana — mancano all'appello solo il vol. 2 del 1999 (era Mackie/Byrne, mai riproposta in cartonato italiano).

The newsstand correspondences are indicative across the issue range: the little Italian newsstand comics were anthologies and also carried the sister series. The historic Italian numbering is a single unbroken chain since 1987 (Star Comics → Marvel Italia → Panini): this collection crosses it from the early Star Comics years (with Kraven's Last Hunt) to no. 876, plus the Corno prehistory of 1970. Trivia: the collection contains six of the seven "number ones" of the American series — the only one missing is vol. 2 from 1999 (the Mackie/Byrne era, never reissued in an Italian hardcover).
